After an effervescent decade in Berlin, Timothée Demoury returned to a quest for simplicity amidst the high plateaus of the Margeride region in Lozère. His new project speaks of vast open spaces, a connection with the elements, the fragility of existence, missed encounters, and the beauty of the world—as well as, perhaps, the anxiety of watching it falter. The lyrics, delivered more often in a spoken style than sung, are in French. With Grand Ressac, Timothée now views himself less as a singer and more as a storyteller.
One might be reminded of Bertrand Belin or Etienne Daho regarding the vocals, or Kanye West for the collision of musical styles—yet those references soon fade, so rich, robust, and unique is the universe created by these new songs.
